The Buy Uganda Build Uganda Special Exhibition
The Ministry of Trade, Industry and Co-operatives organized the first ever Buy Uganda Build Uganda Special exhibition in a bid to promote the consumption of locally made products.
The special exhibition was organized to showcase Ugandan made products and sensitize Government institutions of the supply capabilities of the Ugandan manufacturing sector. This aims to promote local procurement of the institutions’ supplies in selected subsectors like textile and garments, leather goods, furniture and scholastic/office materials.
The exhibition is part of implementation of the Buy Uganda Build Uganda Policy which aims to support the production, purchase, supply and consumption of local goods and services.
The Policy provides for Government support to the private sector in the development and marketing of Ugandan brands through exhibitions, trade fairs and supporting private sector initiatives while creating awareness and cultivating supportive measures in local sourcing of procurement in Uganda.
The State Minister for Trade Hon. Michael Werikhe who officially opened the exhibition said Uganda can only reduce the trade deficit by promoting locally made products. He said it is time that Ugandans start appreciating their own, and stop importing products that are locally manufactured.
The exhibition took place from September 29, 2016 – October 1, 2016 at the Management Training and Advisory Centre (MTAC), Plot M175, Jinja Road, Nakawa, Kampala. Among participants were all the Government service chiefs, public hospitals and Government aided schools.
