Ministry of Trade, Industry and Cooperatives goes live on Electronic Government Procurement (eGP)

The Government of Uganda has been encouraging all Ministries, Departments and Agencies (MDA) to embrace technology, as a means to improve service delivery. The Government of Uganda through the Ministry of Finance Planning and Economic Development and PPDA has rolled out an Electronic Government Procurement (e-GP) System for all government entities to carry out all the procurement processes online

Benefits of Electronic Government Procurement(eGP)

• Improve budget absorption which is the biggest challenge during the covid-19 pandemic
• Improve Government service delivery(efficiency)
• Reduce the cost of bidding
• Timely and equal accessibility to tender information by all providers
• Levelled ground for supplier competitiveness (value for money)
• Improve transparency and accountability of the public procurement process
• Improve debriefing of unsuccessful bids
• Obtain real-time feedback on tender specifications
• Improve contract management (timeliness on delivery and payment)
• Improve value for money for taxpayers and development partner funding

The supplier will be among the beneficiary of the Electronic Government Procurement (eGP) system as it will enable them to do the following online;

• View Bid Adverts online
• Submit bids electronically
• View Other notices from all MDAs on the system
• Digital bid opening
• Online clarification of specifications
• Online contract review
• Digitally Signed contract by the MDAs

The Permanent Secretary, Ministry of Trade, Industry and Cooperatives Ms. Geraldine Ssali officially launched the Ministry of Trade, Industry and Cooperatives on the Electronic Government Procurement (eGP) system. She noted that the system will save huge expenditure flowing into procurement-related processes. She added that the system will ensure transparency in the award of contracts.
