The Minister of Trade, Industry and Co-operatives, Hon. Amelia Kyambadde has met with the US Ambassador to Uganda, H.E Deborah R. Malac to discuss the progress of the African Growth and Opportunity Act (AGOA) program in Uganda, as Uganda prepares for the AGOA review. Uganda is due for an annual review of its performance in AGOA. The review is conducted by the U.S to assess the performance of programs in all countries around the world. Uganda is sending a delegation of business persons to Italy as one of the initiatives to strengthen the trade relations between the two countries and open up more market opportunities for Uganda products. The new State Minister for Cooperatives Hon. Frederick Gume called upon members of the Cooperative movement to participate in planting trees and contribute to environmental protection and mitigation against climate change. Launch of National Cooperatives Week
The first ever National Cooperatives Week was launched by the Minister of Trade, Industry and Cooperatives Hon. Amelia Kyambadde, ahead of the 94th UN International Day of Cooperatives Day celebrations scheduled for Saturday 2nd July, 2016. Uganda has Surplus Sugar
Uganda has a surplus of 36,000 metric tonnes of sugar.
