The Ministry with support from the RIIP II invited the public to bid for the construction of commercial buildings, warehouses, Border market, and related facilities at the Lwakhakha, Busia, Kabale and Oraba Border Export Zones (BEZs). The Ministry organized site visits to the various sites with contractors to introduce them to the sites and help them prepare sound bids for the ongoing tendering process. Ministry of Trade Gets Shs 3.5B to Mitigate Non-Tariff Barriers
TradeMark East Africa (TMEA) has agreed to extend a $1.4m (sh3.5m) grant to the ministry of trade, industry and cooperatives to help government eliminate the Non-Tariff Barriers (NTBs) currently constraining the flow of trade across the region. The partnership agreement was signed by the trade minister Amelia Kyambadde and David Stanton, the TMEA deputy chief executive officer at function held at the ministry last week. The money will finance and strengthen operations of ministry’s National Monitoring Committees (NMCs) on NTBs as it advocates for mitigation of hurdles to trade at both national and regional levels. Trade Minister Kyambadde Looks to Youth for Economic Development
Uganda’s minister of trade and industry, Amelia Kyambadde is targeting youth in the NRM Manifesto and National Development Plan, she has said. The 57-year-old minister made an open appeal for the mentoring of youth – who she said make up the largest population of Uganda – to enhance their participation in economical development of the country. She was attending the Junior Achievement Expo at Uganda Manufacturers’ Association (UMA)’s main exhibition hall last weekend.
