10th Annual Sector Review
The Ministry of Trade, Industry and Cooperatives held its 10th Annual Sector Review of the under the theme; “Sustainable Industrialisation for Job Creation and Export Growth” The review attracted participants from different MDAs, Private Sectors and MSMEs. The Minister gave an overview of the performance of the sector, the achievements, challenges and plans.
Mr Bitature Patrick the Chairman Private Sector Foundation gave a keynote address.
A panel was also constituted to discuss about the sector. BUBU SMEs had a chance to exhibit their products. At the end of the conference the participants resolved to;
- Fast-track the Industrial Policy and Strategy.
- Develop a standardized framework on the development of well serviced Industrial Parks.
- Harmonization of skilling programs in the Country (Jua-Kali).
- Increase visibility to the Local Governments.
- Put more emphasis on program based budgeting as compared output budgeting.
- Ensure that there is an effective communication within the Sector.
- Involve all stakeholders in all programs of the Sector.
- Revert Uganda Investment Authority to the Trade and Industry Sector.
- Integrate Micro Small and Medium Enterprises in the Industrial Parks.
- Provide drying and cleaning machines to Ugandan Millers.
- Make policies aimed at reducing the cost of stainless maize machines.
- Strengthen support the Micro Small and Medium Enterprises (MSMEs).
- Integrate Micro Small and Medium Enterprises in the Industrial Parks.
- Strengthen synergies among government MDAs in the formulation and implementation of policies, strategies and regulations.
- Strengthening Public-Private engagements through establishment Public Private Forums.
- Strengthening Sector Working Group.
- Enhance capacity building and increase the funding to the Sector by having a head of planning at commissioner level.
- Increase the value addition of Ugandan export focusing on manufactured goods.
- Ensure that the existing industries are operating at full capacity.
- Rethink in the management of the informal sector; to harness its huge potential and promote its contribution to the economy of Uganda.
- Empower and capacity building of the people through skills development training aimed at changing the mindset.
- Operationalize the Local Economic Development.
