Strong coordination in the development and implementation of Government policies as well as interventions in most sectors including that of Trade, Industry and Cooperatives is critical to achieving the intended Government goals.

Uganda has embarked on the development of a new strategy in a bid to improve on her performance in AGOA which has remained far below the expectations. The National AGOA Strategy is being developed by the AGOA Secretariat under the supervision of the Ministry of Trade, Industry and Cooperatives.

Poland has moved to strengthen trade relations with Uganda expressing interest in Uganda’s automotive production, renewable energy and agro-processing. While meeting Trade Minister Hon. Amelia Kyambadde, an investor from Poland and CEO of Geneva Capital Group Jerzy Bednarek said there are many Polish companies that would like to start businesses in Uganda

The Government of Sweden has committed itself to continue supporting Uganda in the promotion of trade and industry through building Quality Infrastructure and promoting standards. The commitment was made by the outgoing Swedish Ambassador to Uganda Urban Andersson during a farewell ceremony organized by the Ministry of Trade, Industry and Cooperatives on Tuesday 9th August 2016 at the Ministry offices in Kampala.

Uganda has called for improved trade amongst the Least Developed Countries (LDCs) saying it is the only way LDCs will be able to achieve the Sustainable Development Goals (SGDs) by 2030.

Delivering her statement during a general debate on how to achieve the Agenda 2030 at the ongoing 14th United Nations Conference on Trade and Development (UNCTAD 14) in Nairobi, Kenya, the head of Uganda’s delegation and Minister of Trade, Industry and Cooperatives Hon. Amelia Kyambadde said there is need and urgency to improve the infrastructural interconnectivity amongst LDCs in order to address the low level of intra trade among these countries.

Kyambadde was giving Uganda’s position on the achievement of the SDGs by 2030.
