The Minister of Trade, Industry and Co-operatives, Hon. Amelia Kyambadde has met with the US Ambassador to Uganda, H.E Deborah R. Malac to discuss the progress of the African Growth and Opportunity Act (AGOA) program in Uganda, as Uganda prepares for the AGOA review.

Uganda is due for an annual review of its performance in AGOA. The review is conducted by the U.S to assess the performance of programs in all countries around the world. This review goes to inform on how investments and sanctions can be administered generally.

Uganda joined the rest of the world on Saturday July 2nd, 2016 to commemorate the 94th International Day of cooperatives/ 22nd United Nations Day of Cooperatives.

The theme for the year 2016 is “Cooperatives: The power to act for a sustainable future”.

Uganda is sending a delegation of business persons to Italy as one of the initiatives to strengthen the trade relations between the two countries and open up more market opportunities for Uganda products. This was disclosed during a meeting between the Minister of Trade, Industry and Co-operatives Hon. Amelia Kyambadde and the Italian Ambassador to Uganda H.E Domenico Fornara on to discuss bilateral trade relations between Uganda and Italy.

Members of the Cooperative Movement turned up in big numbers on Monday 27th June, 2016 to participate in the blood donation drive across the country, ahead of the 94th UN International Day of Cooperatives.

The blood donation is one of the activities during the National Cooperatives Week. Other activities include National prayers, delivery of a Cooperatives 5-year Agenda Petition to the 10th Parliament, the I.K. Musaazi Memorial lecture at Makerere University Main Hall, the nationwide annual tree planting drive by members of the cooperatives societies and an xhibition by cooperators at Butalangu Town Council Grounds.

The first ever National Cooperatives Week was launched by the Minister of Trade, Industry and Cooperatives Hon. Amelia Kyambadde, ahead of the 94th UN International Day of Cooperatives Day celebrations scheduled for Saturday 2nd July, 2016.

The launch took place at Constitutional Square in Kampala as members of the Cooperative Movement donated blood in fulfillment of the 7th International Cooperatives principle – “Concern for Community”.
